Sony xavc 4k camera
It's getting very frustrating and I'm close to returning the camera. Been trying to get one quick so I can test and enjoy. I can't find the Sony cards locally or would buy and be done with it. All were rated Class 10/U3 and latest at 95mbs read and 80mbs write (packaging anyway).Ĭan anyone clarify why 100mbs write support in card isn't critical for 100mbs record rate? Is the camera able to cache for writing to slower speed cards? Third attempt I finally got to 4K but camera tells me card not able to do 100mbs. Just got an AX33 and I am on my 3rd card purchase attempt to get one that will work 4K and one specifically that will do 100mbs. There are a lot of suggestions and I saw one poster say his Sony worked for everything but has anyone found a definitive list of cards that will work that are not Sony at 100mbs for the AX33? I have to agree with the original poster on suggesting caution not all cards will work. The author never returned to his thread to acknowledge any of the feedback that has been given. There would be no real need to go with a UHS-II card, unless one wanted to get a card that would be more "future-proof", and hopefully have compatibility with a future camera purchase.Īlthough I do now sort of doubt the authenticity of the original post. I just wanted to show the OP different examples of what to look for. In either case, you need a "U3" card regarding speed rating. In other words - you can spend more on a UHS-II, and it will be more future proof, but it wont work any better than a cheaper UHS-I card. The camera doesn't have all the necessary pins, so I can't imagine how it would.

But anyway, I believe that if you use UHS-II cards in a camera that only has UHS-I capability, you most probably wont gain the full speed benefit from UHS-II.

I don't understand why, because I thought UHS-II is lower voltage. My understanding is that UHS-II cards are backwards compatible with UHS-I cards.

Thank you for clarifying that they were counterfeit thought - I did not make it to the bottom of the thread. I am well aware of storage architectures, ratings, IOPS, having worked in the industry for over a decade. You are operating under false assumptions with this diatribe on HD video, bit rates, and scroogey-ness in general, and it is meainginless now. I also find it to be very strange that you did not return these cards and get them replaced. An owner of all of those Sony cameras would clearly know that the 1080 HD recording does not go beyond 50 Mpbs. Honestly, you do not appear to know what you are talking about. The max bitrate for 1080 HD on all of those Sony cameras is 50 Mbps.

You are also contradicting yourself in your statement here, saying that the cards don't work in both 4k and 1080 HD mode, but then saying that they do work in 50 Mbps. Not sure why you keep referencing this, when it is totally irrelevant. Once again, let me explain to you that the 95 MB/s max read speed has nothing whatsoever to do with being able to record 100 Mbps 4k video.

I have three 95mb/s 128gb PNY SD cards that I purchased for a GH4/LX100 combination (worked great!), and they are collecting dust on my desk because they aren't recognized as fast enough by the RX10 II, RX100 IV, and A7S II for both 4k and 1080p codec's, save for the normal 50mb/s ones that are leftovers and present in the previous models. I recommend that people buy their cards from a reputable dealer like B&H Photo. The conclusion of that thread was that the cards were counterfeit, and that Amazon had received a batch of counterfeit cards. Please also realize that the 95 Mbps rated max read speed has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with the ability to record 4k video. Well, but you are the only person that has claimed this. I have several that say 95mb/s, and one SanDisk that says the same, that do not work for these faster write times.
